His marriage has broken down- he’s living in a squalid bed-sit surrounded by the remains of his former existence. Then into his life comes Gail, a strange and rather wonderful girl. It transpires that she is the result of a liaison between two of the former members of a classic rock band.

She’d always believed her father to have died many years ago but now, to her surprise, he seems to be getting the band back together! Simon finds her story hard to believe, but is so transfixed by this girl that he is keen to help her in any way he can. As he tries to extract the truth from all the fabrications and misunderstandings, he finds some strange parallels between the lives of the band members of thirty years ago and his own.

But he struggles haphazardly through to the obligatory happy ending without really uncovering what has been going on in the background.I then retell parts of the tale from a different and much darker perspective. We find out who the girl’s father really is and what has happened to him and it becomes clear that the wonderful life that Simon and Gail now see in front of them may not turn out to be so rosy after all.The story moves between London and a Seychelles tropical island. Along the way it looks at the problems besetting groups trying to survive in a changing market, creative urges (in more ways than one!), and how the various band members tried to capitalise on the situation, leading to blackmail, murder (or was it?) and, of course, adultery..
